7/20/2010 - WBB MAKES TOP TEN IN DIVISION II GPA FOR 2009-10 ACADEMIC YEAR
ATLANTA – The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced its winners for the 2009-10 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. Missouri Western had the 9th highest grade point average (GPA) in Division II last season with a team GPA of 3.521. This award, given in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College, awards teams throughout the nation that carry the highest GPAs for the entire season based on the nomination submitted by the WBCA-member head coaches.

6/14/2010 - GRIFFONS HOST ANNUAL GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMPS
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Missouri Western women's basketball head coach Lynn Plett held the first day of the Missouri Western annual girls basketball camps today, Monday, June 14. There are two different camps with one being in the morning and one in the afternoon.

6/1/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN’S BASKETBALL INKS TWO FOR 2010-11 SEASON
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western women’s basketball coach Lynn Plett has announced the singing of two student-athletes to the NCAA National Letter’s of Intent. The Griffons will bring in Morgan Stout out of Madison, Kan. and Paige Wilds of Grand Haven, Mich. for the 2010-2011 basketball season.

3/3/2010 - KOCH GARNERS ALL-MIAA HONORABLE MENTION HONORS
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri Western red-shirt sophomore forward Jessica Koch (Kansas City, Mo.) has been named to the 2010 All-MIAA Basketball Honorable Mention team as announced by the league office Wednesday, March 3. Koch was the 2009 MIAA Freshman of the Year.

2/27/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN FALL IN SEASON FINALE 68-55 AGAINST BEARCATS - Box Score

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. –
The Missouri Western women’s basketball team fell in their season finale by a score of 68-55 at home against the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. The Griffons were led by Jessica Koch and Kayla Vice as they had 16 and 12 points respectively. The Griffons end their season with a 7-20 overall record and a 5-15 record in the MIAA.

2/26/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN END SEASON WITH GAME AGAINST SOUTHWEST BAPTIST - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western women's basketball team will take on the Southwest Baptist Bearcats in the last game of the regular season on Saturday, February 27. Western will be looking to snap an eight game losing streak. Western defeated the Bearcats earlier this season by a score of 75-74 back on Tuesday, January 19.

The Missouri Western women’s basketball fell 63-49 against the University of Central Missouri Jennies on Wednesday night in the fieldhouse. Kayla Vice dumped in 13 points for the Griffons while Jessica Koch snared a team high nine rebounds. The Griffons fall to 7-19 on the season and 5-14 in MIAA play.

JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western women's basketball team will take on the University of Central Missouri on Wednesday, February 24 at home in the fieldhouse. The Griffons fell to the Jennies earlier this season in Warrensburg, Mo. Western will be trying to snap a seven game losing streak while the Jennies will try and build on their three game winning streak. Western sits at 7-18 overall and 5-13 in MIAA play while the Jennies are 15-10 overall and 11-7 in MIAA action. Tip time is set for 5:30 pm.

The Griffons continued to struggle as they fell for the seventh consecutive game. This time they fell to the Truman State Bulldogs by a score of 73-67 in Kirksville, Mo. Kayla Vice led the charge for the Griffons scoring a game high 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field. Western sits at 7-18 overall and 5-13 in MIAA play.

2/16/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN TAKE ON BULLDOGS IN FINAL REGULAR SEASON ROAD CONTEST -

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western women will look to snap a six game losing streak in their final road contest of the regular season. Western will be in Kirksville, Mo. to take on the Truman State Bulldogs on Saturday, February 20. Game time is set for 5:30 pm from Pershing Arena. The Griffons are currently 7-17 overall and 5-12 in MIAA play while the Bulldogs are 9-15 overall and 4-13 in MIAA play. The Griffons beat the Bulldogs earlier this season by a score of 65-59 in St. Joseph, Mo. back on Wednesday, January 13.

2/12/2010 - WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TRAVELS TO MARYVILLE FOR MIAA MATCHUP WITH NORTHWEST - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western Women's basketball team hits the road Saturday, February 13 for a battle with the Bearcats of Northwest Missouri State.  The Griffons are looking to end a two game losing skid and be perfect over the Bearcats this season.  The Griffons won the first meeting between the two teams 67-54 on January 6 in St. Joseph.  Western looks for it's first win at the Bearcat Arena since Coach Plett took over in the 2007 season.  The Griffons are currently 7-16 overall and 5-11 in the MIAA, while the Bearcats are 11-11 overall and 7-8 in the conference.  Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. in the Bearcat Arena.

2/10/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN FALL 58-55 AT HOME TO MAVERICKS - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Western women fell for the fifth time in a row in MIAA play losing at home to the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks 58-55 in St. Joseph, Mo. Western shot just 31.0-percent (9-29) in the second half falling to 7-16 overall and 5-11 in MIAA play. Jessica Koch led the charge with 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting.

JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western women's basketball team (7-15, 5-10 MIAA) will try and stop a four game losing streak tonight against the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks (11-10, 6-8 MIAA) in the MWSU Fieldhouse. The Griffons fell to the Mavericks earlier this season by a score of 59-51 in Omaha on Saturday, January 3, 2010.

2/3/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN TRY TO GET BACK ON WINNING TRACK AGAINST LIONS -

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western women's basketball team will look to get back on the winning track this weekend when they travel to Joplin, Mo. to take on the Missouri Southern Lions on Saturday, February 6. The Griffons are 3-2 against the Lions under head coach Lynn Plett and 1-1 in Joplin. The Griffons defeated the Lions earlier this season by a score of 78-62 on December 30, 2009 in St. Joseph, Mo. The Griffons were led by Jessica Koch as she dumped in 24 points and snared nine rebounds. Last season the Griffons fell 58-57 in Joplin, Mo. on December 31, 2008. Lauren Nolke led the charge with 17 points while Jessica Koch pitched in 10. The Griffons are 7-14 overall and 5-9 in the MIAA while the Lions are 11-9 on the season and 5-8 in MIAA action. Game time is set for 5:30 pm from Leggett & Platt Athletic Center.

2/1/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN COME UP SHORT IN 3RD STRAIGHT MIAA GAME - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western women’s basketball team could not overcome a slow start against the Lady Tigers of Fort Hays State on Monday night, as they lost 66-52 in the MWSU Fieldhouse.  It is only the third home loss for the Griffons on the season, all three of which have been MIAA games.  Western shot just 30.6-percent on the night and were 9-of-13 from the charity stripe.  The loss drops the Griffons to 7-14 on the season and 5-9 in the MIAA.

1/30/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN STRUGGLE AT HOME AGAINST THE LADY BLUES IN 74-44 LOSS - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western fell into a hole early and was never able to come back in a 74-44 loss to the Lady Blues of Washburn.  The Griffons put together a couple different runs, but they were always equaled by the hot-shooting Lady Blues.  The Griffons had two players in double-digits on the night, with Jessica Koch leading the way with 13, while Kayla Vice added 10.  The loss drops to the Griffons to 7-13 on the season and 5-8 in the MIAA.

1/26/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN LOOK TO REACH .500 IN THE MIAA WITH CONTEST AT EMPORIA -

ST. JOSEPH, Mo - The Missouri Western women's basketball team is coming off two MIAA Conference victories, a 75-74 victory at Southwest Baptist and a 74-67 home win over Pittsburg State, and now look to even out their conference record at 6-6 when they travel to Emporia, Kan. to take on the Lady Hornets.  Emporia State (17-1 overall and 10-1 in the MIAA) is riding a 12 game win streak into the game, as the Griffons are looking to get their first victory over ESU under Coach Lynn Plett.  Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm Wednesday, January 27 at White Auditorium in Emporia, Kan.

1/23/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN WIN 74-67 IN TOUGH MIAA BATTLE WITH PITTSBURG STATE -

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western rode a career high night by freshman guard Kayla Vice as they battled the Gorillas of Pittsburg State to a 74 to 67 win in the MWSU Fieldhouse.  Vice scored a career high 26 points, and Jessica Koch recorded her fourth double-double of the season (her second in as many games) scoring 13 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.  The victory is the fourth MIAA home victory in a row for the Griffons, and puts Western at 7-11 overall and 5-6 in the conference.

1/21/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN OPEN UP SECOND HALF OF MIAA SEASON AGAINST GORILLAS -

The Missouri Western women's basketball team (6-11, 4-6 MIAA) will open up the second half of the MIAA season on Saturday, January 23 hosting the Pittsburg State Gorillas (9-8, 7-3 MIAA). The Griffons will be looking for their fourth straight home MIAA victory and their first against the Gorillas since January 23, 2008 when the Griffons defeated the Gorillas 77-75 in the fieldhouse. Western fell to Pittsburg State earlier this season by a score of 60-43 on December 2, 2009 in Pittsburg, Kan. Tip time is set for 5:30 pm from the fieldhouse.

1/19/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN EARN FIRST MIAA ROAD VICTORY 75-74 OVER SBU BEARCATS - BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Missouri Western women’s basketball team (6-11, 4-6 MIAA) picked up their first road MIAA victory of the season over the Southwest Baptist Bearcats (3-14, 1-9 MIAA), 75-74. The Griffons turned up the heat in the second half shooting 53.6-percent (15-28) from the field to comeback from a two point halftime deficit. Jessica Koch recorded her third double-double of the season and fifth of her career with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

The Griffons will be searching for their first road MIAA victory of the season. Western fell in their last game on the road to the Jennies of Central Missouri by a score of 83-61. The Missouri Western women's basketball team has won three straight home MIAA basketball games but has struggled on the road posting an 0-4 MIAA road record. Western will look to change that trend on Saturday, January 16 when they travel to Warrensburg, Mo. to take on the University of Central Missouri Jennies a team that has lost six of their last eight games. Western holds a 5-10 overall record and a 3-5 MIAA record while the Jennies are 7-8 overall and 3-5 in MIAA play. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western women’s basketball team shot 52.4-percent (11-21) from the field in the second half and made 13-of-16 second half free throws to comeback from a halftime deficit earning a 65-59 MIAA home victory over the Truman State Bulldogs. The Griffons were led by Lauren Nolke as she poured in 16 points making 6-of-9 field goals and 3-of-3 from long range. The Griffons improve to 5-10 overall and 3-5 in the MIAA.

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western women's basketball (4-10, 2-5 MIAA) team will look to make it three straight at home in MIAA play. The Griffons host the Truman State Bulldogs (6-9, 1-7 MIAA) on Wednesday, January 13 in the MWSU Fieldhouse with tip time set for 5:30 pm. The Griffons are currently 2-2 at home on the season and 2-1 in MIAA play in the fieldhouse. The Griffons fell in their last game at home against non-conference foe #17 Quincy by a score of 79-70 on Saturday, January 9. Jessica Koch led the way with a career high 26 points. In their last home MIAA contest the Griffons outscored the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats 38-20 in the second half claiming a 67-54 victory. Lauren Nolke dumped in a season high 20 points while Koch collected her second double-double of the season and fourth of her career with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Western went 1-1 last season against the Bulldogs and hold a 46-15 advantage in the series and 23-5 advantage at home despite falling last season by a score of 71-62 on February 21, 2009 in the fieldhouse.

JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western women's basketball team held their annual free youth basketball clinic for area girls from grades 2-6 on Saturday morning in the old gym. Approximately 25 girls participated in the clinic. Head Coach Lynn Plett and his team taught the girls valuable tools to make themselves better on the court. For attending the clinic the girls got free admission to the Griffons basketball game against 17th ranked Quincy University.

1/8/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN TRY FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE HOME VICTORY -

The Missouri Western women's basketball team (4-9, 2-5 MIAA) will try for their third consecutive home victory on Saturday, January 9 when they host non-conference opponent #17 Quincy University (10-3, 2-3 GLVC). Tip-time is set for 4:00 pm from the MWSU Fieldhouse. The Griffons hold a 5-1 record against the Hawks and a 3-0 record at home. The last time the two teams met the Griffons won 85-59 on December 20, 1997 in St. Joseph. The Griffons lost the first ever meeting with the Hawks by a score of 67-61 in Quincy, Ill. during the 1987-1988 season.

1/6/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN WIN AT HOME 67-54 OVER BEARCATS - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Griffon women turned the game around in the second half, outscoring the Bearcats 17-3 in the first eight minutes of play. Western also shot 48.9 percent from the field for the game. Lauren Nolke tied her season-high with 20 points and Jessica Koch finished with her fourth career double-double, 13 points and 10 rebounds, and the second one in two games (vs. UNO on January 2).

1/5/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN LOOK TO MAKE IT TWO IN A ROW AT HOME -

The Griffon women's basketball team will shoot for their second home victory in a week. The Griffons beat the Missouri Southern Lions 78-62 in their last home game of 2009 on Wednesday, December 30. In their last game the Griffons fell to the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks 59-51 in Omaha on Saturday, January 2. The Griffons take on the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats tomorrow evening, Wednesday, January 6 in the Fieldhouse with tip-time set for 5:30 pm. Western and the Bearcats have split their last four meetings with the Griffons coming away with a 94-65 victory in their last meeting on February 14, 2009 in the Fieldhouse . The Griffons are 3-9 overall and 1-5 in the MIAA while the Bearcats sit at 6-6 overall and 2-3 in MIAA action.

1/2/2010 - GRIFFON WOMEN FALL 59-51 IN MIAA ACTION AGAINST MAVERICKS - OMAHA, Neb. – Western made a late run against the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks but it would not be enough as they would fall 59-51 in Omaha, Neb. Poor shooting and 13 second half turnovers drops Western to 3-9 overall and 1-5 in MIAA play. Lauren Nolke led the Griffons with a game high 16 points while Jessica Koch finished with a double double scoring 11 points and snaring ten rebounds.

12/30/2009 - GRIFFON WOMEN EARN FIRST MIAA VICTORY OVER LIONS 78-62 - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Griffon women played in front of their home crowd for only the second time this season, putting together their best offensive output of the season with over 10 Griffons scoring in Wednesday night’s game against Missouri Southern. Led by several key runs in the first half, the Griffons separated themselves from the Lions early and never looked back for a 78-62 win. Western improves to 3-8 overall and 1-4 MIAA play.

The Missouri Western women's basketball team (2-8, 0-4 MIAA) will play two more MIAA games this week. The Griffons will host their second game of the season on Wednesday, December 30 when they take on the Missouri Southern Lions (8-2, 2-1 MIAA). Game time is set for 5:30 pm from the MWSU Fieldhouse. The Griffons will hit the road on Saturday, January 2 in their first game of the New Year when they travel to Omaha, Neb. to take on the Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks (6-4, 1-2 MIAA). 12/16/2009 - WESTERN WOMEN FALL 55-52 AT ROCKHURST IN FINAL CONTEST BEFORE HOLIDAY BREAK - KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Western women’s basketball team went on a 19-7 run late in the contest, but a jumper with 25 second left and a free throw with one second remaining by Megan Cook dashed the Griffons hope of a comeback against the Rockhurst Hawks. Lauren Nolke finished the game with a season and game high 20 points but it would not be enough falling 55-52. The Griffons fall to 2-7 overall heading into the holiday break.

12/12/2009 - SLOW START COSTS GRIFFONS A 75-61 LOSS TO TIGERS - HAYS, Kan. – The Missouri Western women’s basketball team got outscored 42-25 in the first half as they would fall 75-61 in MIAA action against the Fort Hays State Tigers. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western women’s basketball team lost their MIAA home opener 71-62 in front of 1,101 fans at the MWSU Fieldhouse.  Western was down by as many as 13 in the second half, but battled their way back.  Leading the Griffons, with career highs of 12 and 11 points, respectively, were freshman Charlonda Bozeman and Kallie Schoonover.

11/28/2009 - GRIFFON WOMEN PICK UP FIRST VICTORY OF THE SEASON OVER MOUNTAIN LIONS - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Missouri Western women’s basketball team picked up their first victory of the season defeating the host school, University of Colorado-Colorado Springs 52-43 in the final game of the Hyatt Place Thanksgiving Classic. Western was led by Jessica Koch and Rachel Luteyn as they had 15 and 11 points respectively. Western sits at 1-3 with the victory.

11/27/2009 - WESTERN WOMEN COME UP SHORT AGAINST ADAMS STATE - COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Missouri Western women’s basketball team battled back all day in the first ever meeting with the Adams State Grizzlies, but it would not be enough falling 68-66 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Griffons were led by Jessica Koch as she had a game high 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting. The Griffons fall to 0-3 on the season with the loss.

11/24/2009 - WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SHOOTS FOR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON AT COLORADO SPRINGS - The Missouri Western women's basketball team heads on the road this Thanksgiving weekend to participate in the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Tournament in Colorado Springs, Colo.  The Griffons (0-2) are in search of their first wins this weekend, as they take on Adams State University (3-1) and the host Colorado Springs (2-1).  On Friday, November 27, Western will take on the Grizzlies of ASU in a 1 p.m. tip-off game.  The Griffons then turn around and play the Mountain Lions of UCCS on their home court at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 28.

11/21/2009 - GRIFFON WOMEN FALL 103-74 TO DRURY PANTHERS - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western women’s basketball team lost another basketball game in the Drury Classic as they fell 103-74 to the host school Drury University.  The Griffons shot 40 % from the field, with Jessica Koch and Rachel Luteyn both scoring double digits, with 15 and 13 respectively.

11/18/2009 - GRIFFON WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TIP'S OFF SEASON IN DRURY TOURNAMENT - ST. JOSEPH, Mo - The Missouri Western women's basketball team will play their first games of the 2009-10 regular season this Friday and Saturday, November 20 and 21 as they travel to Springfield, Mo. for the Drury Tournament.  Western is pitted against Michigan Tech University, the number one team in the nation on Friday, November 20 at 4:00 p.m.  The Griffons will then take on the host team Drury, Saturday, November 21 at 5 p.m.  The Griffons went 1-2 in their exhibition play, which concluded with an 81-64 win over Livin' the Dream last week.

11/12/2009 - GRIFFONS WIN FINAL EXHIBITION OVER LIVIN' THE DREAM 81-64 - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western women’s basketball team closed out their exhibition portion of the 2009 preseason with a win over Livin’ the Dream on Thursday night.  Western shot just 38.7% from the floor and 36.7% from beyond the arc but would come away with the victory, 81-64.  The Griffons were led on the night by Jessica Koch who recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.  Breanna Saline, Lauren Nolke, and Tierra Ford also scored double digits with 17, 13, and 11 points respectively.

11/6/2009 - GRIFFON WOMEN BASKETBALL TO TAKE ON MISSOURI-KANSAS CITY IN EXHIBITION GAME - The Missouri Western women's basketball team is set to play their second exhibition game of the season on Saturday, November 7 as they travel to Kansas City, Mo. for a game with Missouri-Kansas City.  The Kangaroos, from the Summit League, were 12-18 overall last season and finished 7th in conference.  Western lost their first exhhibition of the season last weekend with a 117-49 final at Missouri State.  Tip-off for this Saturday is set for 2 p.m. at the Swinney Recreation Center.

JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western women's basketball team took time out off their busy schedules to help out at the St. Joseph Hy-Vee last Saturday morning. The players and coaches helped bag and carry out customer's groceries. The players also took time to visit with customers and sign posters and hand out schedule cards.

The Griffons hurt themselves in the contest turning the ball over 36 times falling 117-49. Rachel Luteyn led Western with 12 points while Jessica Koch had 10 points going a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line.

JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western State University head women’s basketball coach Lynn Plett unveiled the Griffons’ 2009-10 women’s basketball schedule. The 28-game slate, 12 of which are home games, is highlighted with an exhibition match against a Division I opponent and games versus five 2009 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament qualifiers. The Griffons will also take part in the Drury Tournament on Friday, November 20 and Saturday, November 21 and the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs Tournament on Friday, November 27 and Saturday, November 28.

6/16/2009 - WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HOLDS GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMPS - The Missouri Western women's basketball staff opened up their 2009 girls basketball camps on Monday, June 15. They are putting on two separate girls basketball camps. The first camp is a Griffon Day Camp which starts at 9:00 am and runs until 12:00 pm. The second camp is a Shooting and Offensive Skills Camp which starts at 1:00 pm and run to 4:00 pm. Both camps will run through Thursday, June 18.
