1/27/2010 - GRIFFON SOCCER 14TH MOST IMPROVED TEAM IN DIVISION II
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western soccer team was the 14th most improved team in 2009 according to Somis Sports and released on Wednesday, January 27. The Griffons improved by six victories in 2009 as they finished with an overall record of 8-10-2 overall and 6-8-2 in MIAA play. In 2008 the Griffons were 2-15-3 and 1-13-2 in MIAA action.

11/17/2009 - GRIFFON SOCCER HAS ONE NAMED DAKTRONIC’S SECOND TEAM ALL-REGION
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western midfielder, Jessica Martin (Junior, Fulton, Mo.) was named to the Daktronic’s All-South Central Region second team as voted on by the region’s sports information directors and announced, Tuesday, November 17. Martin is the first player in women’s soccer history to be named to a regional team.

11/12/2009 - GRIFFON SOCCER HAS SIX NAMED TO ALL-MIAA TEAMS
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western soccer team was well represented in the 2009 All-MIAA teams as six Griffon players have been named to the All-MIAA soccer teams as voted on by the league’s head coaches and announced by the MIAA office, Thursday, November 12. The Griffons landed one player on the second team, while five additional players were named to the honorable mention team.

11/7/2009 - WESTERN SOCCER FALLS 1-0 IN SEASON FINALE
TOPEKA, Kan. – The Missouri Western women’s soccer team fell 1-0 in the final game of the season against the Washburn Lady Blues. Western had six shots with three on goal but were unable to score as they finished the season 8-10-2 overall and 6-8-2 in MIAA play.

11/3/2009 - JURAVICH NAMED MIAA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Missouri Western freshman forward Ashley Juravich has been named the MIAA Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for the week of October 26-31 as selected by a conference SID panel. This marks Juravich's first time in her career as the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week.

11/3/2009 - WESTERN SOCCER PLAYS TRUMAN STATE TO DOUBLE OVERTIME TIE - KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – After postponing their soccer game four times due to poor weather the Missouri Western and Truman State women’s soccer teams were able to play their game in Kirksville, Mo. on Tuesday, November 3. Despite being out shot 22 to three the Griffons were able to walk away with a 1-1 double overtime tie against one of the top teams in the MIAA. Western sits at 8-9-2 overall and 6-7-2 in MIAA play with one game remaining in their regular season.

11/2/2009 - TWO GRIFFON SOCCER PLAYERS RECEIVE ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western soccer players Sarah Brimeyer and Molly Slattery were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 Third Team as voted on by the districts Sports Information Directors. The two players have helped the Griffons to their best season in their five year existence as they have won three matches in a row and hold an 8-9-1 overall record and a 6-7-1 record in MIAA play.

10/31/2009 - WESTERN SOCCER WINS THIRD STRAIGHT WITH 1-0 VICTORY OVER SBU - BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Missouri Western soccer team wins their third game in a row with a 1-0 victory over the Southwest Baptist Bearcats in Bolivar, Mo. Ashley Juravich would score her second goal of the season and second in as many games helping the Western improve to 8-9-1 overall and 6-7-1 in MIAA play.

10/29/2009 - WESTERN SOCCER WINS SECOND STRAIGHT WITH 3-0 VICTORY OVER EMPORIA STATE - EMPORIA, Kan. – Despite the poor field conditions the Missouri Western Griffons soccer team dominated the Emporia State Hornets on Thursday afternoon. The Griffons beat the Hornets 3-0 out shooting Emporia State 16-10 in the contest. The Griffons continue to show improvement as they are 7-9-1 overall and 5-7-1 in MIAA play.

10/28/2009 - GRIFFON SOCCER ON THE ROAD FOR MIAA CONTESTS -

The Griffon soccer team takes to the road this weekend in search of two more wins in their record setting season.  Western will play at Emporia State on Thursday, October 29 at 3:00 p.m.  The Hornets stole a 1-0 victory at Spratt Stadium on September 17 and the Griffons will look to go in and pull out a victory on the Hornets pitch.  On Halloween Saturday, Western will again be in action as they look to go 2-0 on the year, and even up the series record at 5-5 with the Southwest Baptist Bearcats.  The game is set to start at 12:00 p.m.

10/26/2009 - WESTERN WOMEN'S SOCCER MATCH WITH TRUMAN POSTPONED FOR FOURTH TIME - The Missouri Western women's soccer match against Truman State - slated for Monday, Oct. 26, at 12 pm in Kirksville - has been postponed for the fourth time this season. The match has been re-scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 12 pm in Kirksville.

10/21/2009 - GRIFFONS WIN FINAL HOME GAME OF 2009 SEASON, 1-0 - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western soccer team didn’t let the dreary weather affect them on Wednesday night as they won their sixth game of the 2009 season 1-0 over the Lions of Missouri Southern.  Western capitalized on 18 shots as they added another win to their record setting season.  The Griffons also ended the 2009 home season with a winning record at Spratt Stadium, going 4-3-1.

10/20/2009 - WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYS LAST HOME GAME OF THE 2009 SEASON - The Missouri Western Women's soccer team will play their final home contest of the 2009 season this Wednesday, October 21 vs. the Missouri Southern State University Lions.  The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. at Spratt Stadium.  The Griffons look to build on a record-setting season and add to their win column.  Western will also be in action on Sunday, October 25 as they travel to Kirksville, Mo. to take on the Bulldogs of Truman State.  This is the third time this game has been made up due to inadequate weather conditions.  Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. in Kirksville.

10/16/2009 - SOCCER GAME WITH TRUMAN STATE MOVED TO SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25 - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western soccer game scheduled for tomorrow, October 17 against Truman State University in Kirksville, Mo. has been moved to Sunday, October 25 due to poor field conditions. Game time is still scheduled for 12:00 pm. Western is coming off of a 1-1 tie with the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Thursday, October 15 and will resume action on Wednesday, October 21 with their final home game of the season against Missouri Southern State University. First kick is set for 7:00 pm from Spratt Stadium.


10/15/2009 - GRIFFONS PLAY SOLID SOCCER; TIE MAVERICKS 1-1 -

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Griffons would again play more than 90 minutes of soccer as they took the University of Nebraska Mavericks to overtime at home. The game went into two overtimes would end after 110 minutes of play in a 1-1 tie. The Griffons had solid possession control in the first half, and then would use good defense in the second and through the overtime periods to force the previously 8-1 (MIAA) Mavericks to a tie.

10/14/2009 - GRIFFON SOCCER READY TO TAKE ON MIAA LEADERS - The Missouri Western Soccer team will return to action this week as they take on the top two teams in the MIAA Conference in Nebraska-Omaha (8-1) and Truman State (9-1).  The Griffons will host the UNO Mavericks on their home pitch Thursday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m.  It is Homecoming week on MWSU Campus and this is the "Griffon Spirit" event.  On Saturday, October 17, Western will travel to Kirksville, Mo. to take on the Bulldogs of Truman State.  This is a switch from the original schedule, as Truman came to Western on Oct. 1 winning 1-0 in double overtime on a brisk night.  Game time on Saturday is set for 12:00 p.m.

10/10/2009 - GRIFFON SOCCER FALLS AT HOME IN ANOTHER HARD FOUGHT BATTLE -
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western soccer team played a tough Central Missouri squad to a 1-0 loss on their home turf.  The Griffons entered the game looking to avenge a 1-0 loss to Central Missouri suffered just 7 days earlier.  Central Missouri scored with 16:18 left in the first half on a dead ball foul just outside the box, and the Griffons would not be able to capitalize on their chances throughout the night.

10/8/2009 - GRIFFON SOCCER PICKS UP SCHOOL RECORD 5TH SEASON VICTORY WITH 3-2 WIN - The Missouri Western Women’s soccer team broke school history winning their 5th game of the season with a 3-2 victory over Southwest Baptist.  Westerns previous best record was 4-15-0, which happened in the 2007 campaign.  The Griffons capitalized on the 9 shots they took in the match and scored three times in the first half.

10/6/2009 - GRIFFON SOCCER RETURNS HOME FOR CONFERENCE MATCHES - The Missouri Western Soccer team will play at home during the next two weeks, and play five different conference opponents.  The Griffons will start by playing Southwest Baptist on Thursday, October 8 with game start time at 7:00 p.m. at Spratt Stadium.  On Saturday, October 10, Western will look to overcome a 1-0 defeat last week against the Jennies of Central Missouri.  Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. on the Griffons home pitch.

10/3/2009 - WESTERN SOCCER FALLS 1-0 TO CENTRAL MISSOURI - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western Griffons soccer team falls to 4-8 overall and 2-6 in the MIAA with a 1-0 loss to the University of Central Missoui in Warrensburg, Mo. Western got three shots from Heather Schmiemeier while Cara Hennahane scored her first goal of the season at the 49:29 mark of the game for the Jennies. Central Missouri improves to 5-4-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the MIAA. Western will be at home on Thursday, October 8 to take on the Southwest Baptist at 7:00 pm.


10/1/2009 - GRIFFON SOCCER LOSES HEARTBREAKER AGAINST BULLDOGS - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – For the second straight game the Missouri Western women’s soccer team lost on a free kick in double overtime, this time to the Truman State Bulldogs by a score of 1-0. With the loss the Griffons fall to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA.

9/30/2009 - GRIFFON SOCCER LOOKING TO PICK UP MORE BIG CONFERENCE WINS -

The Missouri Western Women's soccer team have their plates full this week with games against MIAA Conference opponents Truman State and Central Missouri.  The Griffons will be in St. Joseph, Missouri on Thursday, October 1 to face the 6-2-2 Truman Bulldogs, and will travel to Warrensburg, Missouri on Saturday, October 3 to take on the Jennies.  Games will be played at 7 p.m. in St. Joseph and 7 p.m. in Warrensburg. 9/25/2009 - GRIFFON SOCCER FALLS IN OVERTIME TO LIONS -

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Griffons soccer team lost on a penalty kick to the Missouri Southern Lions by a score of 2-1 in double overtime. Western falls to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the MIAA. Western only had three shots on goal while the Lions had six.

9/24/2009 - WESTERN SOCCER UPSETS BEARCATS 2-0 - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Junior forward Desi Swanson scored her first two goals of the season helping the Griffons to their second consecutive shutout defeating the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats 2-0. The victory is the first for the Griffons in their five year history against the Bearcats. Western sits at 4-5 overall and 2-3 MIAA play.

9/22/2009 - GRIFFON SOCCER FACE TWO MORE CONFERENCE FOES THIS WEEK - The Missouri Western Soccer team will again be playing in MIAA conference action this week.  On Thursday, September 24, the Griffons are at home against 7-1 Northwest Missouri State Bearcats.  Gametime is set for 7:00 p.m. at Spratt Stadium.  Western will then travel to Joplin, Missouri to take on the Missouri Southern Lions on Saturday, September 26.  Game time for that match is also 7 p.m.

9/19/2009 - WESTERN SOCCER DEFEATS WASHBRUN 3-0 FOR FIRST CONFERENCE WIN - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – For the first time since its inaugural season the Missouri Western Griffons soccer team defeated the Washburn Lady Blues. The Griffons got two goals from freshman Abby Widrig and one for Jessica Martin in the 3-0 victory. The last time the Griffons beat the Lady Blues was on September 28, 2005 by a score of 2-1 in St. Joseph, Mo. Western improves to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in the MIAA.

9/17/2009 - WESTERN FALLS IN FIRST HOME SOCCER GAME 1-0 TO EMPORIA STATE - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffons fell to the Emporia State Hornets in their first home soccer game of the season by a score of 1-0. The Griffons out shot the Hornets by six shots (16-10) but could only get three on net. The Griffons fall to 2-5, 0-3 MIAA while the Hornets move to 1-3-1, 1-1 MIAA.

9/15/2009 - GRIFFON SOCCER PLAY FIRST HOME CONTESTS OF THE 2009 SEASON -

The Missouri Western Griffon Soccer team will compete in their first home matches this week bringing in MIAA Conference foes Emporia State and Washburn.  The Hornets will travel to Spratt Stadium on Thursday, September 17 for a 7 p.m. matchup. On Family Day, Saturday, September 19, the Washburn Lady Blues will make their journey to the pitch of Spratt Stadium for a 1 p.m. matchup.

9/12/2009 - GRIFFON SOCCER FALLS 3-1 AGAINST RIVAL BEARCATS - MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffons soccer team gave up two second half goals against the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats, falling 3-1 in Maryville, Mo. The Griffons fall to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA. Jessica Martin scored the Griffons only goal of the game and her fourth of the season.

8/10/2009 - GRIFFONS SOCCER TAKES FIELD FOR FIRST TIME IN FALL SEASON - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western women's soccer team took the turf for the first time in the fall 2009 season. Western has a lot of returnees that will have to lead a talented group of newcomers. The Griffons will open up play against Newman University at 3:30 pm on Saturday, August 29 in the Northwest Missouri State University Classic.

JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western State University Griffons women’s soccer team were tabbed 9th in the annual preseason coaches poll which was released on Thursday, August 6 by the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
