5/6/2010 - FIVE GRIFFON SOFTBALL PLAYERS RECEIVE POST SEASON HONORS - KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Western softball team had five players named to the 2010 All-MIAA Softball Honorable Mention team which was voted on by the league’s head coaches and announced by the MIAA office, Thursday, May 6 at the opening ceremonies at the Blue Valley Recreational Facilities. Shannon Pivovar, Toni Dance, Becky Diehl, Jonnelle Belger and Ashley Hudson were all named to the squad for their performances this past season.

5/6/2010 - MIAA SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD ANNOUNCED - 2010 MIAA Softball Championship Bracket

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On the final day of the MIAA softball regular season, Northwest Missouri and Truman split a doubleheader to decide the final standings and finalize the field for the 2010 MIAA Softball Championship. The Missouri Western Griffons will be the No. 3 seed and they will take on the No. 6 seed Northwest Missouri State University at 6:00 pm in the opening round of the MIAA Conference Tournament held at the Blue Valley Sports Complex in Overland Park, Kan. There aren't any phone lines at the facility so there will not be a webcast tonight.

5/4/2010 - GRIFFONS FALL 4-2 AGAINST BEARCATS IN MAKE-UP CONTEST - Game Box
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western falls in their halted contest from April 24 against the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats 4-2 at Heritage Park. Western falls to 27-26 overall and 10-10 in the MIAA heading into the MIAA Conference Tournament in Overland Park, Kan. at the Blue Valley Sports Complex. Western will play two games on Thursday, May 6 at 6:00 and 8:00 pm.

5/2/2010 - WESTERN SOFTBALL SPLITS A PAIR OF MIAA CONTESTS WITH PITTSBURG STATE - PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Missouri western softball team used three solo home runs in game one to claim a 3-1 victory but gave up six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in game two falling 6-2 against the Gorillas. Western improves to 27-25 overall and 10-9 in MIAA heading into the MIAA Conference Tournament which starts on Thursday, May 6 at the Blue Valley Sports Complex in Overland Park, Kan.

4/30/2010 - WESTERN SOFTBALL WINS TWO WILD EXTRA INNING GAMES AGAINST SOUTHERN - Box 1

JOPLIN, Mo. – The Missouri Western softball team won two wild MIAA softball games against the Missouri Southern Lions in Joplin, Mo. Western won game one coming back from a six run deficit to win 10-8 in 10 innings and then won the night game 5-4 in eight innings. Western improves to 26-24 overall and to 9-8 in MIAA play.

4/23/2010 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL AGAINST NEBRASKA-OMAHA HAS BEEN POSTPONED - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Griffon softball doubleheader scheduled for this afternoon against the University of Nebraska-Omaha has been postponed due to wet field conditions down at Heritage Park. The games will be made up on Wednesday, April 28 with start time scheduled for 3:00 pm. The Griffons doubleheader with Northwest Missouri State University is still on for tomorrow as scheduled. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 pm from Heritage Park in St. Joseph, Mo.

4/19/2010 - TONI DANCE NAMED TO NORTH CROSSOVER - MARYVILLE, Mo. – Missouri Western junior outfielder Toni Dance (5-7, Brisbane, Australia) was named to the MIAA North Crossover All-Tournament Team which was played this past weekend in Maryville, Mo. Dance has gotten two hits in three of her last four games and has hit safely in her last four games. She is second on the team in batting hitting .343 (49-143). She leads the squad with 49 hits, 10 doubles, and seven home runs. She is tied for the team lead with 28 RBI and has one triple on the season.

4/17/2010 - GRIFFONS FALL 3-2 AGAINST GORILLAS ON FINAL DAY OF MIAA NORTHERN CROSSOVER - Game 1 – Pittsburg State 3, Missouri Western 2

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffons left six runners on base as they fell to the Pittsburg State Gorillas 3-2 on the final day of the MIAA Northern crossover. The Griffons fall to 24-21 on the year while Jonnelle Belger picked up the loss going all seven innings giving up eight and three earned runs while striking out five.

4/17/2010 - GRIFFONS SPLIT ON SECOND DAY OF MIAA NORTHERN CROSSOVER - MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffon softball team split on the second day of the MIAA Northern Crossover hosted by Northwest Missouri State University. Western fell in the first game 7-4 against the Emporia State Lady Hornets and then picked up a victory in the night cap by a score of 5-3 against the Missouri Southern Lions. The Griffons had 18 hits on the day with Maegan Roemmich going 3-for-6 with an RBI. Allison Jones picked up the victory against the Lions going all seven innings giving up two hits, three earned runs while striking out five. Western sits at 24-20 overall on the season. The Griffons will wrap up the crossover on Sunday, April 19 with one game against the Pittsburg State University Gorillas at 12:00 pm on field one.

Missouri Western flies past the University of Central Missouri 7-1 behind a two hit complete game from Jonnelle Belger in the first game of the MIAA Northern Crossover. Belger improves to 12-8 as she gave up just one run while striking out three in her 17 complete game of the season.

4/16/2010 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL PUSHED BACK AN HOUR - Due to wet field conditions on Fields 2 and 3 in Maryville, Mo. start times have been pushed back one hour to 1:00 pm. The Griffons will take on the University of Central Missouri at 1:00 pm on Field 2 and will take on the Southwest Baptist University at 3:00 pm on Field 3 in the MIAA Northern Crossover hosted by Northwest Missouri State University.

4/15/2010 - ANOTHER GREAT DAY FOR SOFTBALL IN QUINCY, ILL. - A better day for Griffon softball as we were on the road bright and early this morning, this time headed to Quincy, Illinois to take on Quincy University in a double header. The 3-4 hour trip that it took to get there seemed to go by fast with some good movies playing and a very interesting pit stop. We had pulled over for a bathroom break at what we thought was a gas station. As we pulled in, we noticed some older model cars parked there with people sitting inside. As we got closer, we realized that it was in fact not a gas station, but rather an oil stop and that the people in the cars were not people at all! They were dummies! Very creepy! We, of course, thought this was a little odd, so we got back on the highway and looked for the next exit to make our stop.

QUINCY, Ill. – Missouri Western softball split a non-conference doubleheader against the Quincy University Hawks in Quincy, Ill. this afternoon (April 14). Western fell in the first game 5-3 and bounced back in the second picking up the 6-0 shutout behind the pitching of Jonnelle Belger. Western sits at 22-18 overall and 7-5 in MIAA play.

4/14/2010 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL 9TH IN THIS WEEKS SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL POLL - INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Missouri Western softball team sits in 9th in the latest South Central Regional Poll released this afternoon (April 14). Starting this week the Griffons held a 21-14 overall Division II record and a 21-14 Division II in-region record. The top eight teams in each region advance to play in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

4/13/2010 - WESTERN SWEPT IN SOFTBALL DOUBLEHEADER BY 7TH RANKED EMPORIA STATE - Box 1

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffons softball team ran into the hottest team in the MIAA Tuesday afternoon at Heritage Park getting swept in a doubleheader against the 7th ranked Emporia State Lady Hornets. Western pounded out 19 combined hits in the doubleheader but was unable to come away with the upset falling 9-3 in game one and 13-4 in game two. Western falls to 21-17 overall and 7-5 in MIAA play.

4/10/2010 - WESTERN SOFTBALL SPLITS MIAA DOUBLEHEADER WITH JENNIES - WARRENSBURG, Mo. – The Missouri Western softball team had their nine game winning streak snapped in the second game of their doubleheader with the Central Missouri Jennies. Western won the first game 12-2 in five innings and fell in the second game 5-1. Western is now 21-15 overall and 7-3 in MIAA play.

4/9/2010 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL SWEEP SOUTHWEST BAPTIST - After a couple weeks at home, we are on the road again! This time for a small 2 day trip. Our first games were today vs. Southwest Baptist University down in Bolivar, MO. It was an early morning as we left campus at 8am and headed south. Arriving in Bolivar, we had a quick lunch at Subway before heading to the field for our first game at 2pm.

LATE INNING HOME RUNS PROPEL GRIFFONS TO DOUBLEHEADER SOFTBALL SWEEP OVER FORT HAYS STATE AT HERITAGE PARK
St. Joseph, Mo. - Late inning heroics by senior TyAnn Williamson propelled the Griffs to an 8-7 10 inning victory over Fort Hays State in game 1.  The Griffons entered the final frame trailing by a score of 6-2 after Fort Hays State added a pair of insurance in the top half of the inning.  After Sam Buchanan led off the inning grounding out to second, consecutive singles by Shannon Pivovar, Toni Dance and Becky Diehl loaded the bases for Williamson who entered the at bat 0 for 2 on the day and had been pinch hit for her last time.  On the third pitch of the at bat, Williamson launched her fourth home run of the season over the left field fence, a high towering shot to send the game to extra innings.

3/18/2010 - MIAA CROSSOVER MOVED TO EMPORIA - March 18, 2010 -- This weekends MIAA Crossover which was scheduled to be played in Warrensburg, Mo. on Friday and Saturday has been moved to Emporia, Kan. with games being played on Thursday and Friday. The Emporia State softball team will host the first MIAA Crossover Tournament due to the threat of weather in the Warrensburg, Mo. area. Games will be going on at all three fields at Emporia State. The tournament has also been moved to today, March 18 and Friday, March 19.

3/7/2010 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL FALL TWICE ON FINAL DAY OF MISSOURI SOUTHERN TOURNAMENT - Box 1

JOPLIN, Mo. - The Missouri Western softball team fell twice on the final day of the Missouri Southern Tournament today in Joplin, Mo. The Griffons fell to 9-2 in the first game against Oklahoma City and fell in the night cap 7-1 against Midwestern State University. The Griffons Eight different Griffons picked up hits in the Oklahoma City game with Carla Anderson picking up the loss going all seven innings. Against Midwestern State Ashley Hudson, Brittany Douglas and Samantha Buchanan had two hits apiece. Jonnelle Belger pitched six innings giving up two earned runs as the Griffons committed three errors. Western sits at 7-9 on the season as they head look to play their first games of the season at home. Western host the MWSU Tournament at Heritage Park on Saturday, March 13 and Sunday, March 14. The Griffons will take on Upper Iowa University on Saturday at 10:00 am to open up play.

Another weekend on the road. This time we headed to Joplin, Missouri for a tournament hosted by Missouri Southern. We left on Friday afternoon and headed south. On our way down, we stopped near Kansas City and were able to practice outside! This was our first practice outside this season! After a short, condensed, and much needed outing, we were on the road again. We arrived at the hotel and were all worn out, ready for bed, in anticipation for tomorrow.

It was again an early morning with a wake up call at 6:30am for a continental breakfast at our new hotel in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Griffon softball team improved their record to 5-4 on the season with two victories on the final day of the Spa City Softball Classic. Western won their first game of the day 9-4 over Arkansas Tech University and closed out the classic with a slim 2-0 victory over Arkansas-Monticello. Western will return to action next weekend when they participate in the Missouri Southern Tournament held in Joplin, Mo. The Griffons will open up play the University of Nebraska-Omaha at 9:00 am on Saturday, March 6 on Kungle Field.

2/28/2010 - SPA CITY CLASSIC SOFTBALL BLOG - February 26th & 27th, 2010

Yesterday's bus trip to Hot Springs, Arkansas, was extremely long. It took us about 9 hours to get here including about and hour stop in Joplin, MO for some dinner at Steak 'n Shake. By the time we got to the hotel, we were all pretty tired and ready to hit the hay.

Western fell in the first game by a score of 3-2 against host school Henderson State and then fell to Ouachita Baptist 4-3 in the second game. The Griffons sit at 3-4 overall with two games left to play in the Spa City Classic.

2/21/2010 - A WEEKEND OF SOFTBALL IN OKLAHOMA - FINAL DAY - Today was the last day of competition in Edmond, Oklahoma. It was an early morning as the game was set for 10am. We had to get up bright and early to pack all of our stuff, eat breakfast, and load the bus. We were unsure if we were even going to get to play as the weather seemed to be a bit gloomy. There were rain clouds hovering over us and a slight drizzle was gently hitting our faces. But, nevertheless, it was game on! While trying to stay warm and dry, we managed to beat Eastern New Mexico University in 7 innings with a score of 4-2!

2/20/2010 - A WEEKEND OF SOFTBALL IN EDMOND, OKLAHOMA - Day 2 - By Teammates

Again, we started off our day with the oh so delicious continental breakfast and were on the bus, ready to go by quarter to 11am. We played at a different field today, Del City High School, which was a little further away from our hotel. We were pleasantly surprised by the outstanding quality of the field, for being at a junior high campus. Game time was set for 1pm and by the sixth inning, we had run ruled Northeastern Oklahoma State University 10-2. The second game started shortly after and again, this time by the fifth inning, we had run ruled them 13-3! Today, as you can see, was a better day for us! Our bats really came to life! We can't even remember or count the number of hits we saw pounded off the solid, green, wooden fence that bordered the outfield. We can remember, however, that 3 of those hits, weren't pounded against it, but rather they sailed over it!

2/19/2010 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL EVENS RECORD WITH SWEEP OVER NORTHEASTERN STATE - EDMOND, Okla. - The Missouri Western softball team evened their season recored at 2-2 with a doubleheader sweep over regional opponent Northeastern State University. Western won the first game 10-2 in six innings and 13-3 in five innings in game two. The Griffons will take on Eastern New Mexico University in a single game tomorrow Saturday, February 20 at 10:00 am from Del City High School.

2/18/2010 - A WEEKEND OF SOFTBALL IN EDMOND, OKLAHOMA - By Teammates

It was 2pm on February 17th when we heard that our first softball tournament scheduled in Durant, Oklahoma had been cancelled due to poor field conditions and inclement weather. Everyone at first was angry and frustrated that for the second time this season our opener was going to be delayed. Before speaking too soon we got another wave of news. We were leaving that day at 5pm to head to Edmond, Oklahoma to play a different round of games. We ended up practicing for an hour and were able to make it back to our rooms to pack for a 3 day trip. By the time we got on the road it was 6pm and we were on our way.

2/18/2010 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL FALLS TWICE AGAINST BRONCHOS TO OPEN THE SEASON - EDMOND, Okla. – The Missouri Western softball team struggled to close out their first two games of the 2010 season falling late twice to the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla. The Griffons gave up late leads in both games falling 10-9 in game one and 7-6 in game two. Western sits at 0-2 on the season.

2/17/2010 - SOFTBALL WEEKEND CHANGES AND UPDATES - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - Unfortunately, due to lingering effects of last week's weather in Durant, Okla. the fields at the Multi-sports Complex are unplayable.  Southeastern Oklahoma State has been forced to cancel their tournament for this upcoming weekend. Fortunately enough the Griffons will travel to Edmond, Okla. to play five regional games starting on Thursday, February 18 with a doubleheader against Central Oklahoma starting at 12:00 noon. Western will then take on Northeastern State University in a doubleheader at Del City High School at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 19 and will play a single game against Eastern New Mexico University starting at 10:00 am on Saturday, February 20. 1/27/2010 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL EIGHTH IN 2010 NFCA PRESEASON POLL -

Coach Bagley has guided the Griffons to a 267-185 record in eight years. She has also led them to four NCAA Tournament Appearances (2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009).

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Griffon softball team is ranked eighth in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Preseason Poll, released Wednesday, January 27. The ranking is the highest in school history, coming of a year after Western won 32 consecutive games earning a trip to the South Central Regional hosted by Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, Okla. Alabama-Huntsville, who made the NCAA championship game last year, garnered the top spot in the poll.

9/12/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL CANCELLED FOR TODAY - The Missouri Western softball games in Council Bluffs, Iowa have been cancelled for today. The Griffons were scheduled to play three games in the Iowa Western Tournament against Iowa Western, Peru State and Bellevue University. Western will resume their fall portion of their schedule on October 4 against Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Games are scheduled to start at 12:00 and 2:00 pm.

7/6/2009 - WESTERN ATHLETICS & CITY OF ST. JOSEPH CHOSEN AS HOST OF SB CHAMPIONSHIP - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western Athletics and the City of St. Joseph have been chosen as the host of the 2010 NCAA Division II Women’s Softball Championship as announced by the association earlier this summer.

6/18/2009 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL WILL HOLD CAMP IN JULY - This is a hitting, fielding and pitching camp that will teach each player proper mechanics needed to become a top-notch player. The goal will be reached by learning proper drills and repetition. Each player will be taught how to detect common flaws in their hitting, fielding, and pitching mechanics. This camp will provide each player with a challenging, intense, and fun experience. It will be taught by Head Coach Jen Bagley and Assistant Coach Amy Beverly who led the Griffons to a 47-12 record this past season.

5/14/2009 - JONES NAMED SECOND TEAM DAKTRONICS ALL-SOUTH CENTRAL REGION - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western sophomore pitcher Allison Jones has been named to the Second Team Daktronics All-South Central Region announced Thursday, May 14. Western ended its season with a 47-12 overall mark and 16-4 in the MIAA. During the regular the Griffons broke the MIAA and school record for victories in a row with 32.

5/14/2009 - DOUGLAS AND JONES NAMED TO LOUISVILLE SLUGGER/NFCA DII ALL-REGION 2ND TEAM - ST. 5/9/2009 - GRIFFONS FIGHT OFF ELIMINATION TWICE TO MOVE INTO REGIONAL FINAL - DURANT, Okla. – The Missouri Western softball team won two games in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history today as they needed ten innings to defeat Central Missouri 3-1 and then dominated Abilene Christina 11-2 in the second contest. With the victories the Griffons move to the regional finals against second seeded Southeastern Oklahoma State. Western will have to defeat the Savage Strom twice tomorrow, Sunday, May 10 with the first game starting at 1:00 pm from Durant, Okla.

5/8/2009 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL FALLS 2-1 TO ABILENE CHRISTIAN - DURANT, Okla. – The Missouri Western Griffons out hit the Abilene Christian Wildcats 11-to-5 but it would not be enough as the Wildcats scored two runs in the fifth inning to claim the 2-1 victory. Western falls to 45-11 on the season and will play at 1:30 tomorrow against the loser of #7 Central Missouri and #2 Southeastern Oklahoma State.

5/7/2009 - JONES NAMED TO THIRD TEAM DISTRICT 7 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM - ST JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western sophomore pitcher Allison Jones from Mitchellville, Iowa has been named to the Third Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District 7 softball team which was released today by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

5/4/2009 - GRIFFONS SOFTBALL HEADED TO NCAA TOURNAMENT - INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA Division II Softball Committee has selected the 64 teams that will participate in the 2009 NCAA Division II Softball Regional Championships. Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in double-elimination tournaments. Regional competition will be held May 8-10. Winners will advance to the super regional’s May 15-16. The finals will be held May 21-25 in Salem, Virginia, at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex.

5/2/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT TITLE BID ENDS - OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – The Western softball teams bid at MIAA Softball tournament title would end Saturday, May 2nd in Overland Park, Kan. as they would fall to the 4th seed Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks 2-0 and the 3rd seed Emporia State Hornets, 3-0. Western falls to 45-10 overall and will have to wait until tomorrow night to see if their season will continue in the South Central Regional Tournament. The Griffons are the 6th seed right now with the top eight teams making the National Tournament.

5/1/2009 - GRIFFONS WIN FIRST TWO GAMES OF MIAA SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Western softball team won the first two games of the MIAA softball tournament tonight in Overland Park, Kan. Western battled from behind in the first game earning a 6-5 victory over the seventh seeded Missouri Southern Lions in nine innings. Western would use the momentum of the first game to earn a 6-1 victory over the third seed Emporia State Hornets. Western improves to 45-8 on the season and will take on the fourth seeded Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks tomorrow, Saturday, May 2 at 3:00 pm.

5/1/2009 - SEVEN GRIFFONS RECEIVE MIAA HONORS; BAGLEY NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR - KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Western softball team was well represented on the 2009 All-MIAA Softball teams as seven players have been named to the squads and head coach Jen Bagley was named Coach of the Year as voted on by the league’s head coaches and announced by the MIAA office, Friday, May 1. Western landed five players on the first team, while two additional players were named to the Honorable Mention team.

4/29/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL MOVES UP ONE SPOT IN SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL POLL - INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Missouri Western Griffons softball team moved up one spot in this week South Central Regional poll to number six as they went 5-1 last week in regional play. The Griffons sat in the seventh spot last week but with a split against Emporia State on the road and a sweep of the Missouri Southern Lions and Pittsburg State Gorillas at home, it allowed Western to move up in the standings.

4/25/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL SWEEPS GORILLAS ON SENIOR DAY - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffons softball team held the Pittsburg State Gorillas scoreless while sweeping them by scores of 3-0 in both games. Griffon pitchers Allison Jones and Jonnelle Belger continued to pitch outstanding as they only gave up six hits and struck out seven in the two games. The Griffons honored three senior players (Mandie Nocita, Keri Franks and Lauren Sternberg) in between games as they played their last home games of their career. Western improves to 43-8 overall and 16-4 in the MIAA.

4/24/2009 - TOUGH DEFENSE AND SOLID PITCHING LIFTS GRIFFONS SOFTBALL TO SWEEP OF LIONS - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffons used solid defense and great pitching to get two, 2-0 victories over the Missouri Southern Lions. Western got complete games from Allison Jones and Jonnelle Belger improving their record to 41-8 overall and 14-4 in the MIAA.

4/21/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH EMPORIA STATE ON THE ROAD - EMPORIA, Kan. – The Missouri Western Griffons were able to go to Emporia, Kan. and pick up a huge split in MIAA and South Central Regional play against the Emporia State Hornets. Western fell in game one 3-0 and then won the night cap by a score of 7-6. Western is 39-8 overall and 12-4 in the MIAA.

4/19/2009 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL SWEEPS BEARCATS IN MARYVILLE - MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffons improved their overall record to 38-7 and MIAA record to 11-3 with a pair of victories against the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats. Western defeated the Bearcats 7-2 in the first game as Allison Jones improves to 21-2 on the year and then escaped in the second game winning 5-2 in eight innings. With the victories the Griffons clinched an MIAA Tournament birth which will start on Thursday, April 30 at the Blue Valley Recreation Complex in Overland Park, Kan.

4/17/2009 - WESTERN SPLITS WITH #19 NEBRASKA-OMAHA ON THE ROAD - OMAHA, Neb. – The Missouri Western softball team took one of two games from the 19th ranked Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks in Omaha, Neb. The Griffons defeated the Mavericks in game one by a score of 7-3 and then fell in game two by a score of 6-2. Western sits at 36-7 overall and 9-3 in the MIAA.

4/15/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL SITS AT 8TH IN NCAA SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL; 25TH NATIONALL - ST JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western softball team sits at 8th in the latest NCAA Division II Softball South Central Regional Rankings as released by the NCAA this afternoon.  The Griffs fell three spots from last weeks rankings as they had their 32 game winning streak snapped by Central Missouri last Saturday, April 11.

4/4/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL SWEEP FORT HAYS STATE TO WIN 28TH GAME IN A ROW - HAYS, Kan. – The Missouri Western Griffons softball team won its 28th game in a row as they swept the Fort Hays State Tigers in Hays, Kan. Western’s Allison Jones threw a one hitter in game one to get the 6-0 victory and in the second game the Griffons scored two runs in the seventh inning to claim the 7-5 victory. 4/2/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL RANKED SEVENTH IN THE SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL POLL - INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – In the first South Central Region poll of the year the Missouri Western softball team finds themselves in 7th position. The top eight teams in the region will make the NCAA tournament in May. The Griffons are ranked 21st in the country and are on a 26 game winning streak, which is a school and conference record. The previous school record was 16 in 2006 while the previous conference record was 21 by Emporia State in 2006.

4/1/2009 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL EXTENDS WINNING STREAK TO 26 WITH SWEEP OF BULLDOGS - KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Western softball team continues to build on the school and conference record for wins in a row as they made it 26 in a row with a sweep of the Truman State Bulldogs. Western was able to shutout the Bulldogs in game one winning 3-0 and then hung on in game two for the 7-5 victory. Western sits at 29-4 overall and 4-0 in MIAA play.

3/31/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL CONTINUES WINNING STREAK WITH SWEEP OF LADY BLUES - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffons softball team continued their winning streak by sweeping the Lady Blues in Topeka, Kan. in the MIAA Conference opener by scores of 6-5 and 5-3. Western scored four unearned runs in game one to claim victory and controlled game two from the start to improve their record to 27-4 overall and 2-0 in MIAA play. 3/21/2009 - GRIFFONS SOFTBALL MAKES IT 18 IN A ROW - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffons softball team continues to play well as they have now won 18 games in a row as they defeated the Quincy University Hawks 3-1 and the Wayne State Wildcats 4-2 on the opening day of the MWSU Ramada Inn Softball Invitational. 3/19/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL CONTINUES WINNING WAYS WITH SWEEP OF BEARCATS - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffons softball team extended their winning streak to 16 with a non-conference sweep of the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats. The Griffons got great pitching from Allison Jones and Carla Anderson in game one to get the victory, 6-0. In game two Western used a two run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning by Shannon Pivovar to pick up the 6-5 victory. Western improves to 19-4 on the season.

3/17/2009 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL EXTENDS WINNING STREAK WITH SWEEP OF PANTHERS - SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffons extended their winning steak to 14 with a sweep of the Drury Panthers. The Griffons improve to 17-4 on the season as they were able to squeak out a 1-0 win in ten innings in game one and then would get a 2-0 victory in game two.

2/24/2009 - GRIFFON SHORTSTOP NAMED MIAA SOFTBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK - KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Ashley Hudson, a 5-foot-6 sophomore from Kearney, Mo., hit .438 with one home run, seven RBI and 11 runs scored as the Griffons began the 2009 campaign with seven wins in 11 games.

2/22/2009 - GRIFFONS SOFTBALL WINS TWO ON FINAL DAY OF TOURNAMENT - ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Missouri Western Griffons took two games on the final day of the HSU Hot Springs Spa City Classic to finish 4-1 overall and second in the tournament. The Griffons opened up the day defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville 8-1 and then followed it up with a 6-4 victory over Northeastern State in eight innings. Western sits at 7-4 overall on the season.

2/20/2009 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL SPLITS ON FIRST DAY OF HSU SPA CITY CLASSIC - ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Missouri Western Griffon split on the first day of the Henderson State Spa City Classic. Western fell in the opening game by a score of 5-3 to Tarleton State University and then defeated Cameron University by a score of 4-2. Western sits at 4-4 on the season. The Griffons will take on Southern Arkansas at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 21.

2/16/2009 - THREE GRIFFONS SELECTED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM - SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Missouri Western softball team had three players named to the Angelo State Blue and Gold Classic All-Tournament Team. Third baseman Amanda Nocita, shortstop Ashley Hudson and centerfielder Becky Diehl were all named to the squad for their performances during the classic.

Western opened up the day falling to the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs by a score of 7-4 and then handed West Texas A&M their first loss of the season by a score of 8-4. Western sits at 3-3 after the first weekend of competition.

Western fell to the host school the 21st ranked Angelo State Rambelles 12-8 in the opener and battled back to get a 7-4 victory over Texas A&M International. Western sits at 2-2 on the season.

2/13/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL SPLITS A PAIR OF GAMES ON OPENING DAY IN TEXAS - SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Missouri Western Griffons softball team split a pair of games on opening day in the Angelo State Blue and Gold Classic. The Griffons used a dynamite pitching performance in game one from freshman Carla Anderson to earn a 9-0 victory over the University of Texas-Permian Basin. In game two the Griffons pounded out 11 hits, but five errors in the field would cost Western as they would fall to the Cardinals of Incarnate Word by a score of 8-2.

Western and Pittsburg State both received 51 total points in the poll.
