- GRIFFON SOFTBALL GAMES CANCELLED
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western softball games that were scheduled to be played this weekend in Edmond, Okla. have been cancelled due to poor weather and field conditions. The Griffons will have to postpone their 2010 season opener for two weeks when they travel to Durant, Okla. to participate in the South Central Shootout. The Griffons open up play on Friday, February 19 against Ouachita Baptist University at 10:00 am. Western will wrap-up the first day of action against the host school Southeastern Oklahoma State University at 2:00 pm. Western is ranked 8th in the NFCA Division II Top 25 preseason poll and were picked to finish 2nd in the MIAA preseason poll. Western finished last season with a 47-12 overall record.

- GRIFFON SOFTBALL TABBED 2ND IN MIAA PRESEASON COACHES POLL
KANSAS CITY, Mo. The Missouri Western Griffon softball team was selected as preseason No. 2 in the 2010 MIAA Softball Coaches Poll with 92 points and five first place votes, the conference office announced Friday.

- GRIFFON SOFTBALL EIGHTH IN 2010 NFCA PRESEASON POLL
Coach Bagley has guided the Griffons to a 267-185 record in eight years. She has also led them to four NCAA Tournament Appearances (2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009).
STARKVILLE, Miss. The Griffon softball team is ranked eighth in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Preseason Poll, released Wednesday, January 27. The ranking is the highest in school history, coming of a year after Western won 32 consecutive games earning a trip to the South Central Regional hosted by Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, Okla. Alabama-Huntsville, who made the NCAA championship game last year, garnered the top spot in the poll.

9/12/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL CANCELLED FOR TODAY -
The Missouri Western softball games in Council Bluffs, Iowa have been cancelled for today. The Griffons were scheduled to play three games in the Iowa Western Tournament against Iowa Western, Peru State and Bellevue University. Western will resume their fall portion of their schedule on October 4 against Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. Games are scheduled to start at 12:00 and 2:00 pm.
7/6/2009 - WESTERN ATHLETICS & CITY OF ST. JOSEPH CHOSEN AS HOST OF SB CHAMPIONSHIP -
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. Missouri Western Athletics and the City of St. Joseph have been chosen as the host of the 2010 NCAA Division II Womens Softball Championship as announced by the association earlier this summer.

6/18/2009 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL WILL HOLD CAMP IN JULY -
This is a hitting, fielding and pitching camp that will teach each player proper mechanics needed to become a top-notch player. The goal will be reached by learning proper drills and repetition. Each player will be taught how to detect common flaws in their hitting, fielding, and pitching mechanics. This camp will provide each player with a challenging, intense, and fun experience. It will be taught by Head Coach Jen Bagley and Assistant Coach Amy Beverly who led the Griffons to a 47-12 record this past season.

5/14/2009 - JONES NAMED SECOND TEAM DAKTRONICS ALL-SOUTH CENTRAL REGION -
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. Missouri Western sophomore pitcher Allison Jones has been named to the Second Team Daktronics All-South Central Region announced Thursday, May 14. Western ended its season with a 47-12 overall mark and 16-4 in the MIAA. During the regular the Griffons broke the MIAA and school record for victories in a row with 32.

5/9/2009 - GRIFFONS FIGHT OFF ELIMINATION TWICE TO MOVE INTO REGIONAL FINAL -
DURANT, Okla. The Missouri Western softball team won two games in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history today as they needed ten innings to defeat Central Missouri 3-1 and then dominated Abilene Christina 11-2 in the second contest. With the victories the Griffons move to the regional finals against second seeded Southeastern Oklahoma State. Western will have to defeat the Savage Strom twice tomorrow, Sunday, May 10 with the first game starting at 1:00 pm from Durant, Okla.

5/8/2009 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL FALLS 2-1 TO ABILENE CHRISTIAN -
DURANT, Okla. The Missouri Western Griffons out hit the Abilene Christian Wildcats 11-to-5 but it would not be enough as the Wildcats scored two runs in the fifth inning to claim the 2-1 victory. Western falls to 45-11 on the season and will play at 1:30 tomorrow against the loser of #7 Central Missouri and #2 Southeastern Oklahoma State.

5/4/2009 - GRIFFONS SOFTBALL HEADED TO NCAA TOURNAMENT -
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. The NCAA Division II Softball Committee has selected the 64 teams that will participate in the 2009 NCAA Division II Softball Regional Championships. Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in double-elimination tournaments. Regional competition will be held May 8-10. Winners will advance to the super regionals May 15-16. The finals will be held May 21-25 in Salem, Virginia, at the James I. Moyer Sports Complex.

5/2/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT TITLE BID ENDS -
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. The Western softball teams bid at MIAA Softball tournament title would end Saturday, May 2nd in Overland Park, Kan. as they would fall to the 4th seed Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks 2-0 and the 3rd seed Emporia State Hornets, 3-0. Western falls to 45-10 overall and will have to wait until tomorrow night to see if their season will continue in the South Central Regional Tournament. The Griffons are the 6th seed right now with the top eight teams making the National Tournament.

5/1/2009 - GRIFFONS WIN FIRST TWO GAMES OF MIAA SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT -
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. The Western softball team won the first two games of the MIAA softball tournament tonight in Overland Park, Kan. Western battled from behind in the first game earning a 6-5 victory over the seventh seeded Missouri Southern Lions in nine innings. Western would use the momentum of the first game to earn a 6-1 victory over the third seed Emporia State Hornets. Western improves to 45-8 on the season and will take on the fourth seeded Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks tomorrow, Saturday, May 2 at 3:00 pm.

5/1/2009 - SEVEN GRIFFONS RECEIVE MIAA HONORS; BAGLEY NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR -
KANSAS CITY, Mo. The Missouri Western softball team was well represented on the 2009 All-MIAA Softball teams as seven players have been named to the squads and head coach Jen Bagley was named Coach of the Year as voted on by the leagues head coaches and announced by the MIAA office, Friday, May 1. Western landed five players on the first team, while two additional players were named to the Honorable Mention team.

4/29/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL MOVES UP ONE SPOT IN SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL POLL -
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. The Missouri Western Griffons softball team moved up one spot in this week South Central Regional poll to number six as they went 5-1 last week in regional play. The Griffons sat in the seventh spot last week but with a split against Emporia State on the road and a sweep of the Missouri Southern Lions and Pittsburg State Gorillas at home, it allowed Western to move up in the standings.

4/25/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL SWEEPS GORILLAS ON SENIOR DAY -
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. The Missouri Western Griffons softball team held the Pittsburg State Gorillas scoreless while sweeping them by scores of 3-0 in both games. Griffon pitchers Allison Jones and Jonnelle Belger continued to pitch outstanding as they only gave up six hits and struck out seven in the two games. The Griffons honored three senior players (Mandie Nocita, Keri Franks and Lauren Sternberg) in between games as they played their last home games of their career. Western improves to 43-8 overall and 16-4 in the MIAA.

4/21/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH EMPORIA STATE ON THE ROAD -
EMPORIA, Kan. The Missouri Western Griffons were able to go to Emporia, Kan. and pick up a huge split in MIAA and South Central Regional play against the Emporia State Hornets. Western fell in game one 3-0 and then won the night cap by a score of 7-6. Western is 39-8 overall and 12-4 in the MIAA.

4/19/2009 - GRIFFON SOFTBALL SWEEPS BEARCATS IN MARYVILLE -
MARYVILLE, Mo. The Missouri Western Griffons improved their overall record to 38-7 and MIAA record to 11-3 with a pair of victories against the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats. Western defeated the Bearcats 7-2 in the first game as Allison Jones improves to 21-2 on the year and then escaped in the second game winning 5-2 in eight innings. With the victories the Griffons clinched an MIAA Tournament birth which will start on Thursday, April 30 at the Blue Valley Recreation Complex in Overland Park, Kan.

OMAHA, Neb. The Missouri Western softball team took one of two games from the 19th ranked Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks in Omaha, Neb. The Griffons defeated the Mavericks in game one by a score of 7-3 and then fell in game two by a score of 6-2. Western sits at 36-7 overall and 9-3 in the MIAA.

ST JOSEPH, Mo. The Missouri Western softball team sits at 8th in the latest NCAA Division II Softball South Central Regional Rankings as released by the NCAA this afternoon. The Griffs fell three spots from last weeks rankings as they had their 32 game winning streak snapped by Central Missouri last Saturday, April 11.

4/2/2009 - WESTERN SOFTBALL RANKED SEVENTH IN THE SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL POLL -
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. In the first South Central Region poll of the year the Missouri Western softball team finds themselves in 7th position. The top eight teams in the region will make the NCAA tournament in May. The Griffons are ranked 21st in the country and are on a 26 game winning streak, which is a school and conference record. The previous school record was 16 in 2006 while the previous conference record was 21 by Emporia State in 2006.

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. The Missouri Western softball team continues to build on the school and conference record for wins in a row as they made it 26 in a row with a sweep of the Truman State Bulldogs. ST. JOSEPH, Mo. The Missouri Western Griffons softball team continued their winning streak by sweeping the Lady Blues in Topeka, Kan. in the MIAA Conference opener by scores of 6-5 and 5-3. Western scored four unearned runs in game one to claim victory and controlled game two from the start to improve their record to 27-4 overall and 2-0 in MIAA play. ST. JOSEPH, Mo. The Missouri Western Griffons softball team extended their winning streak to 16 with a non-conference sweep of the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats. The Griffons got great pitching from Allison Jones and Carla Anderson in game one to get the victory, 6-0. In game two Western used a two run homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning by Shannon Pivovar to pick up the 6-5 victory. Western improves to 19-4 on the season.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. The Missouri Western Griffons extended their winning steak to 14 with a sweep of the Drury Panthers. The Griffons improve to 17-4 on the season as they were able to squeak out a 1-0 win in ten innings in game one and then would get a 2-0 victory in game two.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Ashley Hudson, a 5-foot-6 sophomore from Kearney, Mo., hit .438 with one home run, seven RBI and 11 runs scored as the Griffons began the 2009 campaign with seven wins in 11 games.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. The Missouri Western Griffons took two games on the final day of the HSU Hot Springs Spa City Classic to finish 4-1 overall and second in the tournament. The Griffons opened up the day defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville 8-1 and then followed it up with a 6-4 victory over Northeastern State in eight innings. Western sits at 7-4 overall on the season.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. The Missouri Western Griffon split on the first day of the Henderson State Spa City Classic. Western fell in the opening game by a score of 5-3 to Tarleton State University and then defeated Cameron University by a score of 4-2. Western sits at 4-4 on the season. The Griffons will take on Southern Arkansas at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 21.

SAN ANGELO, Texas The Missouri Western softball team had three players named to the Angelo State Blue and Gold Classic All-Tournament Team. Third baseman Amanda Nocita, shortstop Ashley Hudson and centerfielder Becky Diehl were all named to the squad for their performances during the classic.

SAN ANGELO, Texas The Missouri Western Griffons picked up a split on the final day of the Angelo State Blue and Gold Classic. SAN ANGELO, Texas The Missouri Western Griffons softball team split a pair of games on opening day in the Angelo State Blue and Gold Classic. The Griffons used a dynamite pitching performance in game one from freshman Carla Anderson to earn a 9-0 victory over the University of Texas-Permian Basin. In game two the Griffons pounded out 11 hits, but five errors in the field would cost Western as they would fall to the Cardinals of Incarnate Word by a score of 8-2.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. The Missouri Western State University softball team has been picked to finish in a tie for sixth place with Pittsburg State in the MIAA by the leagues head coaches as announced Thursday (Jan. 29th). Western and Pittsburg State both received 51 total points in the poll.
