- GRIFFON BASEBALL TABBED 5TH IN MIAA PRESEASON COACHES POLL
KANSAS CITY, Mo. The Missouri Western Griffon baseball team was selected as preseason No. 5 in the 2010 MIAA Baseball Coaches Poll with 62 points, the conference office announced Friday.

- MISSOURI WESTERN BASEBALL HITTING CAMP INFORMATION
The camps will teach each player the proper mechanics needed to become a top-notch hitter. This will be reached through detailed swing analysis, proper drills and repetition. Each player will also be taught how to detect common flaws in their mechanics. These camps will provide each player with a challenging, intense, and fun experience.

- COMMUNITY FALL FREE BASEBALL CLINIC WAS A HUGE SUCCESS
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western baseball team held its annual Community Fall Free Baseball Clinic last Sunday, October 18 at Phil Welch Stadium. The clinic was a wonderful success as there were more than 50 St. Joseph youth baseball players that participated in the clinic. The Griffon baseball players and coaches taught the kids fundamentals of the game and had them compete in fun and exciting drills. The Griffons baseball team will open up its spring schedule on February 13 when they play a doubleheader with Alabama-Huntsville in Huntsville, Alabama. Games times are scheduled for 12 pm and 2 pm.

- GRIFFON BASEBALL TRYOUTS POSTPONED
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western baseball tryouts which were scheduled for tomorrow, June 16 has been postponed. The make-up day will be determined at a later time and the rain day of Thursday, June 18 will not be used. Please check www.gogriffons.com for further information on the make-up date.

6/11/2009 - HUTTENLOCKER DRAFTED IN 44TH ROUND BY THE OAKLAND AS -
OAKLAND, Calif. - Missouri Western standout pitcher AJ Huttenlocker, was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 44th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Thursday (June 11). Huttenlocker was the 1,323 player drafted and is the fourth Missouri Western baseball player drafted according to www.sports-wired.com.

5/19/2009 - TWO GRIFFONS NAMED TO ABCA/RAWLINGS ALL-SOUTH CENTRAL REGION SECOND TEAM -
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. Missouri Western senior pitcher AJ Huttenlocker and senior outfielder Troy Landi have been named to the Second Team ABCA/Rawlings All-South Central Region which was announced Monday, May 18. 5/7/2009 - FIVE GRIFFON BASEBALL PLAYERS RECEIVE POST SEASON HONORS -
KANSAS CITY, Mo. The Missouri Western baseball team was well represented on the 2009 All-MIAA Baseball teams as five players have been named to the squads as voted on by the leagues head coaches and announced by the MIAA office, Thursday, May 7. Western landed three players on the first team, while two additional players were named to the Honorable Mention team. Western ended its season with a 34-22 overall mark and 22-16 in the MIAA. The 34 victories are the most for the Griffons since joining NCAA Division II and under head coach Charles Buzz Verduzco. Western ended the season on an eight game winning streak and won 12 of their last 13 games.

5/5/2009 - GRIFFON PITCHER RYAN CARBAH NAMED MIAA PITCHER OF THE WEEK -
KANSAS CITY, Mo. Carbah, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior from Belton, Mo., was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and one save in two relief appearances for the Griffons at Truman last weekend.

5/3/2009 - GRIFFON BASEBALL SWEEPS BULLDOGS ON LAST DAY OF REGULAR SEASON -
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. The Missouri Western baseball team closed out the season winning eight straight games and 12 of their last 13 as they finished four game sweep of the Truman State Bulldogs on the last day of the season. The Griffons pounded out 20 hits in game one earning the 16-5 victory and then won 9-5 in ten innings in game two. Western finished the season with a 34-22 overall record and a 22-16 record in the MIAA. The Griffons 34 victories is the most wins in a season under Coach Verduzco.

5/2/2009 - GRIFFON BASEBALL WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT WITH TWO VICTORIES OVER BULLDOGS -
KIRKSVILLE, Mo. The Missouri Western baseball team won its sixth game in a row and tenth in 11 tries as they took the first two games against the Truman State Bulldogs in Kirksville, Mo. The Griffons scored the last three runs of the game to earn the 5-3 victory in game one and then won 11-2 behind a complete game from AJ Huttenlocker. Western improves to 32-22 overall and 20-16 in the MIAA.

PITTSBURG, Kan. The Missouri Western Griffons baseball team scored 27 runs in two games as they were able to complete the four game sweep over the Pittsburg State Gorillas in Pittsburg, Kan. The Griffons won the first game 9-3 after scoring six runs in the top of the seventh inning and then they won the second game winning 18-15. The Griffons sit at 30-22 overall and 18-16 in the MIAA.

PITTSBURG, Kan. The Missouri Western Griffons baseball team pounded out 21 hits in two games as they took the first two games of a four game series against the Pittsburg State Gorillas in Pittsburg, Kan. The Griffons scored 16 runs winning 8-3 and 8-4 improving their record to 28-22 overall and 16-16 in the MIAA.

EMPORIA, Kan. The Missouri Western Griffons only got six hits in two games as they would fall twice to the #3 Emporia State Hornets in Emporia, Kan. In game one the Griffons gave up five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to fall 6-2 and in game two the Griffons only got two hits falling 10-0. EMPORIA, Kan. The Missouri Western Griffons split with #3 Emporia State improving their record to 20-18 on the season and 8-12 in MIAA. The Griffons capitalized on four Hornet errors in game one to pick up the 9-2 victory, but committed four errors in the second game falling 9-5.

TOPEKA, Kan. The Missouri Western Griffons baseball team split a pair of games with the Washburn Ichabods in Topeka, Kan. The Griffons fell in the opener 2-0 and then came back to get the night cap 7-4. Western sits at 9-11 overall and 2-6 in the MIAA. 2/22/2009 - GRIFFONS SPLIT WITH WONDER BOYS IN SECOND DAY OF SERIES -
RUSSELVILLE, Ark. The Missouri Western Griffons sit at 7-5 on the season after taking 3-of-4 games on the weekend against the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys. Western won the first game on Sunday by a score of 7-6 and fell in the final game of the series 9-4. Western will open up conference play next weekend when they take on the Missouri Southern Lions in Joplin, Mo. The two teams will play doubleheaders on both Saturday, Feb. 28 and Sunday, March 1st.
