5/6/2010 - THREE GRIFFON BASEBALL PLAYERS RECEIVE POST SEASON HONORS
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Western baseball team had three players named to the 2010 All-MIAA Baseball Honorable Mention team which was voted on by the league’s head coaches and announced by the MIAA office, Wednesday, May 5. Brandon Simmons, Isaac Rome and Ian Atkinson were all named to the squad for their performances this past season.

5/2/2010 - LONG BALL HURTS GRIFFONS IN SERIES FINALE AGAINST 9TH RANKED HORNETS

The Missouri Western baseball team ended its season with an 12-4 loss at the hands of the 9th ranked Emporia State Hornets.  Western says goodbye to 15 seniors as they played their last game in a Griffon uniform. Western also played its last home contest at Phil Welch Stadium as they will move on campus to a new facility next fall. The Griffons finished their season 22-23 overall and 16-22 in MIAA play.

4/28/2010 - WESTERN BASEBALL WITH MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS CANCELED - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western baseball game scheduled  with Missouri-St. Louis at Phil Welch Stadium has been canceled and will not be made up. Western will wrap up MIAA play this weekend when they host the 9th ranked Emporia State Hornets in a four game series from Phil Welch Stadium. The series will kickoff on Friday, April 30 with a single nine inning contest starting at 6:00 pm.

4/27/2010 - GRIFFON BASEBALL SIGNS TWO FOR NEXT SEASON - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western baseball coach Charles “Buzz” Verduzco has announced the signing of two student-athletes that have committed to play baseball for the Griffons beginning next fall. Mason Queen out of Wentzville, Mo. and Jake Graham a transfer student from Spokane Falls CC originally from Nine Mile Falls, Wash. have signed national letters of intent to play for Western next fall.

The Missouri Western Griffons completed the four game series sweep against the Pittsburg State Gorillas by getting two victories at home. Western won the first game 6-4 and then picked up an exciting 12-11 victory in 11 innings on a walk off single by Ian Atkinson. Western improves to 22-19 overall and 16-18 in the MIAA.

The Missouri Western baseball team scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to take the final game of their four game series with the Truman State Bulldogs. The Griffons hung on in the ninth earning the 6-4 victory and taking the four game series sweep. The Missouri Western baseball team improved to 12-11 overall and 7-11 in MIAA play after splitting on the final day with the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats. The Griffons made a comeback in game one scoring eight unanswered runs but it wouldn't be enough as the Griffons fell 11-8. In game two the Griffons battled from behind all game long and eventually got the game winning hit in the bottom of the 10th inning when Vince Romo blasted a two run walk off home run over the right field wall giving Western the 9-7 victory. Western will return to action on Wednesday, March 31 when they take on the Rockhurst Hawks in Kansas City, Mo. in a single nine inning contest starting at 6:00 pm.

2/24/2010 - ROME EARNS MIAA HITTER OF THE WEEK - MIAA BASEBALL HITTER OF THE WEEK
Isaac Rome, Jr., 1B, Carol Steem, Ill.

In his first games in the black and gold Isaac Rome hit .800 (4-for-5) with three home runs and drove in a team-high six runs. The junior transfer from College of Dupage, scored three runs on the week and walked four times with three being intentional. He had a 2.600 slugging percentage with a team-high 13 total bases.

2/12/2010 - GRIFFON BASEBALL GAMES WITH ALABAMA-HUNTSVILLE CANCELLED DUE TO TRAGEDY - Missouri Western baseball season opener scheduled for tomorrow Saturday, February 13 with Alabama-Huntsville has been cancelled due to the tragedy on the Huntsville campus. The Griffons were en route to Alabama today (Friday, Feb. 12) and were not involved in the shooting at UAH that claimed three lives. Thank you to all the Western family members who have expressed their concern, and our heartfelt condolences to our colleagues at Alabama-Huntsville.

12/6/2009 - MISSOURI WESTERN BASEBALL HITTING CAMP INFORMATION - The camps will teach each player the proper mechanics needed to become a top-notch hitter. This will be reached through detailed swing analysis, proper drills and repetition. Each player will also be taught how to detect common flaws in their mechanics. These camps will provide each player with a challenging, intense, and fun experience.

10/21/2009 - COMMUNITY FALL FREE BASEBALL CLINIC WAS A HUGE SUCCESS - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western baseball team held its annual Community Fall Free Baseball Clinic last Sunday, October 18 at Phil Welch Stadium. The clinic was a wonderful success as there were more than 50 St. Joseph youth baseball players that participated in the clinic. The Griffon baseball players and coaches taught the kids fundamentals of the game and had them compete in fun and exciting drills. The Griffons baseball team will open up its spring schedule on February 13 when they play a doubleheader with Alabama-Huntsville in Huntsville, Alabama. Games times are scheduled for 12 pm and 2 pm.

6/15/2009 - GRIFFON BASEBALL TRYOUTS POSTPONED - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - The Missouri Western baseball tryouts which were scheduled for tomorrow, June 16 has been postponed. The make-up day will be determined at a later time and the rain day of Thursday, June 18 will not be used. Please check www.gogriffons.com for further information on the make-up date.


6/11/2009 - HUTTENLOCKER DRAFTED IN 44TH ROUND BY THE OAKLAND A’S - OAKLAND, Calif. - Missouri Western standout pitcher AJ Huttenlocker, was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 44th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Thursday (June 11). Huttenlocker was the 1,323 player drafted and is the fourth Missouri Western baseball player drafted according to www.sports-wired.com

5/19/2009 - TWO GRIFFONS NAMED TO ABCA/RAWLINGS ALL-SOUTH CENTRAL REGION SECOND TEAM - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – Missouri Western senior pitcher AJ Huttenlocker and senior outfielder Troy Landi have been named to the Second Team ABCA/Rawlings All-South Central Region which was announced Monday, May 18. Western ended its season with a 34-22 overall mark and 22-16 in the MIAA. The 34 victories are the most for the Griffons since joining NCAA Division II and under head coach Charles “Buzz” Verduzco. Western ended the season on an eight game winning streak and won 12 of their last 13 games.

Western ended its season with a 34-22 overall mark and 22-16 in the MIAA. The 34 victories are the most for the Griffons since joining NCAA Division II and under head coach Charles “Buzz” Verduzco. Western ended the season on an eight game winning streak and won 12 of their last 13 games.

5/7/2009 - FIVE GRIFFON BASEBALL PLAYERS RECEIVE POST SEASON HONORS - KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Western baseball team was well represented on the 2009 All-MIAA Baseball teams as five players have been named to the squads as voted on by the league’s head coaches and announced by the MIAA office, Thursday, May 7. Western landed three players on the first team, while two additional players were named to the Honorable Mention team. Western ended its season with a 34-22 overall mark and 22-16 in the MIAA. The 34 victories are the most for the Griffons since joining NCAA Division II and under head coach Charles “Buzz” Verduzco. Western ended the season on an eight game winning streak and won 12 of their last 13 games.

5/5/2009 - GRIFFON PITCHER RYAN CARBAH NAMED MIAA PITCHER OF THE WEEK - KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Carbah, a 6-foot-2, 185-pound junior from Belton, Mo., was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and one save in two relief appearances for the Griffons at Truman last weekend.

5/3/2009 - GRIFFON BASEBALL SWEEPS BULLDOGS ON LAST DAY OF REGULAR SEASON - KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Western baseball team closed out the season winning eight straight games and 12 of their last 13 as they finished four game sweep of the Truman State Bulldogs on the last day of the season. The Griffons pounded out 20 hits in game one earning the 16-5 victory and then won 9-5 in ten innings in game two. Western finished the season with a 34-22 overall record and a 22-16 record in the MIAA. The Griffons 34 victories is the most wins in a season under Coach Verduzco.

5/2/2009 - GRIFFON BASEBALL WIN SIXTH STRAIGHT WITH TWO VICTORIES OVER BULLDOGS - KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Western baseball team won its sixth game in a row and tenth in 11 tries as they took the first two games against the Truman State Bulldogs in Kirksville, Mo. The Griffons scored the last three runs of the game to earn the 5-3 victory in game one and then won 11-2 behind a complete game from AJ Huttenlocker. Western improves to 32-22 overall and 20-16 in the MIAA.

4/25/2009 - GRIFFON BASEBALL COMPLETE FOUR GAME SWEEP OVER GORILLAS - PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Missouri Western Griffons baseball team scored 27 runs in two games as they were able to complete the four game sweep over the Pittsburg State Gorillas in Pittsburg, Kan. The Griffons won the first game 9-3 after scoring six runs in the top of the seventh inning and then they won the second game winning 18-15. The Griffons sit at 30-22 overall and 18-16 in the MIAA.

4/24/2009 - GRIFFON BASEBALL TAKES FIRST TWO GAMES AGAINST GORILLAS - PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Missouri Western Griffons baseball team pounded out 21 hits in two games as they took the first two games of a four game series against the Pittsburg State Gorillas in Pittsburg, Kan. The Griffons scored 16 runs winning 8-3 and 8-4 improving their record to 28-22 overall and 16-16 in the MIAA.

4/22/2009 - GRIFFON BASEBALL SPLITS WITH REGIONAL OPPONENT ROCKHURST - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffons were able to split with regional opponent the Rockhurst Hawks as they scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win 5-4 in game one and then gave up an early 2-0 lead in the second game falling, 5-2. 4/6/2009 - WESTERN FALLS TWICE TO #3 EMPORIA STATE - EMPORIA, Kan. – The Missouri Western Griffons only got six hits in two games as they would fall twice to the #3 Emporia State Hornets in Emporia, Kan. In game one the Griffons gave up five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to fall 6-2 and in game two the Griffons only got two hits falling 10-0. Western sits at 19-19 overall and 8-14 in the MIAA.

4/5/2009 - WESTERN BASEBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH #3 EMPORIA STATE - EMPORIA, Kan. – The Missouri Western Griffons split with #3 Emporia State improving their record to 20-18 on the season and 8-12 in MIAA. The Griffons capitalized on four Hornet errors in game one to pick up the 9-2 victory, but committed four errors in the second game falling 9-5.

3/30/2009 - WESTERN SPLITS WITH BEARCATS - ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Western Griffons baseball team would get their seven game winning streak snapped in game one by a score of 6-5 against the Northwest Missouri State Bearcats, but would rally in game two for an 8-2 victory. Western took three of four games from the Bearcats and now sit at 18-14 overall and 7-9 in the MIAA.

The Griffons fell in the opener 2-0 and then came back to get the night cap 7-4. Western sits at 9-11 overall and 2-6 in the MIAA. The two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow, Sunday, March 15 as they will play a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.

2/22/2009 - GRIFFONS SPLIT WITH WONDER BOYS IN SECOND DAY OF SERIES - RUSSELVILLE, Ark. – The Missouri Western Griffons sit at 7-5 on the season after taking 3-of-4 games on the weekend against the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys. Western won the first game on Sunday by a score of 7-6 and fell in the final game of the series 9-4. Western will open up conference play next weekend when they take on the Missouri Southern Lions in Joplin, Mo. The two teams will play doubleheaders on both Saturday, Feb. 28 and Sunday, March 1st.
