Jeff Hansen begins his fifth season as the head women's soccer coach at Missouri Western in 2010. Last season Hansen guided the Griffons to its most successful in its five year existence finishing the season with an 8-10-2 overall record and a 6-8-2 record in MIAA play. The Griffons set team records for most wins (8), most MIAA wins (6), longest winning streak (3), points, (73), goals (26), assists (21), shots attempted (198) and shots on goal (97).
Last season the Griffons had six players named to All-MIAA teams. Abby Widrig was an All-MIAA Second Team selection while Molly Slattery, Erin Widrig, Ashlyn Castillo, Jessica Martin and Audry Henderson were All-MIAA Honorable Mention selections. Jessica Martin became the first Western women's soccer player to earn Daktronic's Second Team All-Region Honors while Molly Slattery and Sarah Brimeyer were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-Distric 7 Third Team.
Jessica Martin and Ashley Juravich became the first and second Griffon's to earn MIAA Offensive Player of the Week. Martin was named that on September 1, 2009 while Juravich earned that honor on November 3, 2009.
In 2008 Jenna Weis became the second Griffon to earn MIAA Defensive Player of the week. Weis was also an All-MIAA selection a year ago.
In 2007 Hansen became the Griffons all-time winningest coach and led his team to its best record in its three year existence at 4-15. Hansen coached two MIAA players in 2007 and had four student-athletes named to the MIAA Commisioner's Academic Honor Roll. Goalkeeper Shaylynn Milbourn became the first Griffon soccer player to be named MIAA Player of the Week on Monday, October 15, 2007.
Hansen came to Missouri Western after a 2-year stint at Central Missouri State as the assistant women’s soccer coach. Hansen also has previous collegiate coaching experience at Missouri Southern State University where he was also a student-athlete. While at UCM, Hansen helped turn a Jennies program around in a short period of time. UCM went 4-12-1 in 2004 and 11-8-1 in the 2005 season with Hansen’s help.
Hansen recruited the Jennies’ top three scorers on the 2005 team, including two first-team, All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association selections and one honorable mention All-MIAA pick. Hansen also assisted the UCM Sports Information Department as well as assisted in the game management operations for basketball, volleyball and baseball.
Hansen was a student-athlete for the Missouri Southern men’s soccer program from 2000-02 and moved into a student-assistant position following the completion of his eligibility. Hansen was then named the interim head coach for both the Southern men’s and women’s soccer programs during the spring semester of 2003, working with training and conditioning as well as on field coaching of both teams during the spring competition.
After MSSU, Hansen was the assistant coach at the varsity level for the Thomas Jefferson Independent Day School in Joplin, Missouri prior to moving to UCM as the assistant coach. Hansen holds a bachelor of science degree in education from Missouri Southern State University and completed his master’s degree in Sports Administration from Central Missouri State University.
Hansen and his wife Brittany reside in St. Joseph, with children Brandt and Keagan.
