- WESTERN HOLDS GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR NEW FACILITY
Missouri Western held the groundbreaking ceremony for the indoor sports and recreation center that will house the summer training camp of the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, June 29 at the Chris Faros Alumni Pavilion. Speakers at the event included Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder; State Sen. Charlie Shields; Denny Thum, Chiefs president; Ken Shearin, mayor of St. Joseph; R.T. Turner, Buchanan County presiding commissioner; Dr. Robert Vartabedian, Western's president; Dirck Clark, chair of Western's Board of Governors; and Dave Williams, director of athletics. Dan Nicoson, vice president for university advancement, served as master of ceremonies. Construction of the indoor practice facility is scheduled to begin July 1, and be completed in time to host the Chiefs training camp in July 2010.
