The indoor sports and recreation facility at Missouri Western State University that will serve as the summer training camp home of the Kansas City Chiefs is now under construction just west of Spratt Stadium.

The facility will include a full-size indoor football field, a locker room, weight room, training room, coaches’ offices, meeting rooms and a lecture hall. The Chiefs will use the facility for three weeks during their training camp every summer; for the remaining 49 weeks of the year, Western and the St. Joseph community will enjoy outstanding recreational opportunities in the new building.

The Chiefs are donating money to help build the facility and other needed improvements. They will hold their summer training camp at Western for at least five years, beginning in July 2010. The city of St. Joseph, Buchanan County and private donors are also helping pay the cost.

The construction of the facility has forced Western to close several recreational facilities, including the wood-chip walking trail. Please click on Advisories to view this important information.
